By the time Adam joined us at R&S there was a great deal of mistrust and animosity between the controlling interest partners and the minority share owner operators. The maverick entrepreneur who served as the patriarch to a network of families representing 22 separate individual companies generating 78 million in annual revenue, created a leadership vacuum and an uncertainty about succession upon his death.
My best decision at this difficult time was to bring Adam Ullman into this mess to help us sort through the legal, business and emotional stresses that were tearing at the seams of our organization as well as our families. This work required all that Adam had in experience and education as well as his personality and temperament.
Adam was thrust into the management of daily operations as well as the touchy family/stakeholder dynamics of 20 delicate egos that all felt their way was THE way. In less than two years time he had navigated us all through several scenarios of reorganization and then finally led us to the only solution which was a creatively structured sale of controlling stock from two shareholders to the remaining 18.
His kindness, patience and necessary sense of humor were quickly noticed and valued as highly as his business and legal knowledge. He was quick to edit his diplomacy as the situation demanded and was alert to the changing landscape of the many bruised egos involved. Adam’s deft attention to detail and nuance allowed him to be the adult in the room that was necessary for an outcome that saved people’s jobs and the founders’ legacy.
